Psssst! I’m going to let you in on a little secret most brides don't think about until they're deep in wedding planning mode. Wedding ceremony chair decorations are such an overlooked photogenic component of your wedding ceremony.
I love a good floral arch as much as anyone, but your ceremony is literally filled with…you guessed it… chairs!
They frame your walk down the aisle. They set the scene. They pull your whole ceremony aesthetic together.
Wedding chair decorations come in so many beautiful forms. Elegant greenery swags, flowing satin sashes, or hanging jar vases. Oh my!
Not sure what's the best fit for your ceremony? Read on for some of my favorite pics.
Draped White Fabric on Gold Chiavari Chairs
Can’t you see this being in your wedding photo album? If you want an over-the-top ceremony, then go for Gold Chiavari chairs draped with white fabric intricately woven throughout the chair backs. And then a pink rose and a sprig of magenta wildflowers to top it off. Wow!
Talk to your floral designer about weaving a single stem into each chair sash. Your event rental company will have the fabric and the expertise to take care the draping, so this is absolutely something worth adding to your design conversation early on.
Hanging Flowers on White Garden Chairs
Plan to have white garden chairs for your ceremony? Then give them a charming upgrade with hanging glass jar arrangements. Have your florist fill the jars with flowers that match your wedding colors.
Unlike a ribbon-tied bouquet, the water in the jar keeps every stem fresh and perky throughout the entire ceremony, a minor but brilliant idea that protects against wilting on a warm outdoor wedding day.
You also have the option to add a little handwritten tag for a personal touch. Your calligrapher can absolutely recreate these for every single aisle seat.
Go Bold with Colorful Sashes
White chairs are such a great canvas to work with because they take color so well.
What I think is so great about this approach is how easy it is to swap the sash for whatever your wedding colors are. Especially if you’re not able to find other decor that best fits your preference, or if you have multiple wedding colors.
Your event rental company can source chair sashes in virtually any color. Then ask your florist to add in a small cluster of baby's breath right into the knot of the sash.
The Wedding Favor That's a Fan Favorite
For an outdoor summer or destination wedding, placing carved wooden fan on each seat is definitely one of the most guest-forward things you can do. It’s one of those styling accents that’s both thoughtful and added chair decor.
Your wedding planner can source beautifully crafted sandalwood or lacework fans in bulk through specialty event vendors, and you can even have them personalized with your wedding date or monogram.
Add in a card or a sprig of dried lavender alongside each fan to turn it into a true keepsake your guests will hold onto.
Not Feeling the Chiavari?
Not a fan of Chiavari chairs? These rustic chairs are a refreshing alternative. Then have your florist design individual chair posies that best complement the chairs and your colors.
If you’ve been defaulting to Chiavari chairs out of habit, simply ask your rental company about other styles. It’s absolutely worth the conversation.
Ornate Iron Bistro Chairs
No, you’re not in the French countryside! But if want your wedding ceremony to seem like a destination wedding, then this might be for you.
These wrought iron bistro chairs with their scrolled backs are an incredibly distinctive rental option. Ask your rental company specifically about French bistro or iron garden chairs. But be sure to check far in advance as not all event rental companies carry these!
Have your florist drape a full arrangement of garden roses, ranunculus, and trailing greenery right over the top of that scrollwork. Better yet, send them this image before your consultation so they can design the exact cascade you have in mind and bring it to life.
Don’t be surprised if your guests think they’re attending a wedding at a private estate in Provence.
A Little Sunshine Goes a Long Way
Isn’t yellow such a fun color for a wedding? And if it is one of your wedding colors, you might want to use this design as inspiration.
The white chairs are styled with flowing yellow sashes tied at the back, and that same yellow is picked up again in the sash on the draped altar table.
When you sit down with your event designer, ask them specifically about treating your chair sashes and your altar styling as one cohesive design system so that the style and color match perfectly.
Yes, Another Jar – But This One is Different!
Ok, it’s possible that I have a slight obsession with flowers in cute jars. But the difference with this one is that wide, dreamy ribbon.
Using a wider ribbon is pretty and practical. It distributes the weight of the jar more evenly, which means less wobbling and a more secure hang all ceremony long. That can help a lot when you're dealing with wind or guests bumping those aisle chairs.
It also creates a much more finished look for your aisle where a thin ribbon can practically disappear. Plus, you can trade out the ribbon color of choice.
